A Missing Man. A Penniless Detective. An Ancient Instrument Capable of Opening Doors to Other Dimensions.
Barcelona, May 9th, 2005. M. Cacho, a private detective. 100 euros per day plus expenses. He does not believe in mystery, the paranormal, or ghosts; yet he always finds himself embroiled in the occult, the strange, and the beyond.
On this occasion, Cacho faces a particularly puzzling case. Juan Ramón Jiménez, a retired antique dealer and member of the dangerous Caballeros del Alba Gris lodge, has disappeared. His wife, Remedios, is devastated. Juan Ramón was last seen the night he was to receive the highest level of wisdom. Along with him, the Arpa de Ur, the oldest instrument in the world, vanished as well. Rumor has it its notes can open a door to another dimension. What happened remains a mystery.
To further complicate matters, Mr. Bernstein arrives with a new case: someone has kidnapped his beloved competition chihuahua, Johnny. What seems like a prank soon becomes a nightmare when Cacho discovers that he is not the only one whose purebred dog has gone missing. Someone is doing terrible things to these animals.
With the unexpected help of Mañana, his new assistant, Cacho finds himself immersed in a double investigation that will have him running to save their lives. Will he be able to solve the mystery before it's too late?
An exciting thriller that will keep you hooked from the first page to the last.
The critics have said: ✓ "The first paragraph alone should be cast in bronze in every writing school and workshop." Carlos Puyol, editor ✓ "The speed, sense of humor, and ability to find a different variation on an already well-trodden genre stand out." Enrique Murillo, editor "I really like Artur's direct, sometimes very raw, and surrealistic narrative, which has made me think of Alex de la Iglesia's films. Irreverent, and not for the faint of heart, highly recommended for those readers who enjoy different stories that stray from the clichés." Laura, books blogger "An opening of the genre that can interest the classic noir novel reader as well as the post-Tarantino generation, and presents a narratively revolutionary approach."
